Jobs as an Online Freelancer

Being a freelancer online is being your own boss, working and doing things your own way and perhaps on your own time. The greatest fun here is you operate under your own name, having the salary of equal, or probably greater than those who goes to the office with little or no hassle of travel. You only need a computer and an internet.

What is a freelancer?
A freelancer is someone who does a specific task for one or many employers he chose to work. He is someone who does not hold a long term agreement but is often represented by his own boss or probably a company or agency. He may work as a part time, hourly, continuously or as needed by his boss.

Where to find Freelancing jobs?
There are websites that cater freelancing jobs. Here are some:
The best way to start is to signed up to any of these and browse all the available jobs posted. To become  freelancer, you need to think of any service which you can offer to others. Some  are professionals but most I think are not. They just need a basic knowledge of the service they can provide. Freelance practices differs greatly. Some wants a separate contract, some accept conversation using chat with webcam, some performs work according to verbal agreement only.

As a starter, you may feel the awkwardness on applying to a job. You will see that you will have a lot of competitors to all these jobs. That's why, to start effectively, you  need to market yourself on the best service you can provide. Most here prepare themselves a great CV and profile. Those that have the greatest number of clients mostly have  a good portfolio of the works they are good at. These are all necessary.  I can suggest you tell something about yourself better than what you can offer, just be sure to at least accomplish it in the best way you can.

How Freelancers get Paid
There are many ways Freelancers get paid. Most of the time it is the clients who choose the mode of payment. They may propose to charge the contractor/freelancer per hour until the job is done, a specific rate, or on a per-project basis. They may also choose to give an additional amount as a bonus. As per hour payment, they get to monitor their contractors through the freelancing website's monitor software which you will know once you signed up with them.
For fixed rate, freelancers should ask for an upfront payment. 25% of the total amount is fine. It is a way for us to protect ourselves for scammers. who ask yet don't pay when they get the service.

Samples of the Most common Jobs of freelancers

  • Freelancer writer
  • Virtual assistant
  • Bookekeper
  • People who ask for help in liking their facebook
  • Designer
  • Graphics Artist
  • Programmer
  • Photo editor
In fact, you can find almost all jobs in freelancing websites stated above. All you need is self trust that you will be hired. I actually began getting hooked to online jobs, September of 2011, that was when my contract from a Healcare company ended. I am a Registered health professional. I signed up in oDesk, lined myself in graphics and multimedia design. I infact had a hard time at first. I arranged a good portfolio and voila! Lots of invites for interview came to my inbox. I guess you just have to believe in yourself and convince that this is your job, you hold your time, you hold the bids
